Building Academics and
Self Esteem
As a result of an academic assessment and evaluation of a student's teachability, a BASE level is determined.
A BASE level
indicates
the number of students which would allow the teacher the greatest opportunity to provide instruction
appropriate to
each student in the
class. The largest number of students per teacher is twelve.
Some classes, however, have eight to ten
students
with a few classes as
small as five or six.
The reason why St. Jude's School insists on such a small pupil/teacher ratio has been well documented over the
last five decades. Research has proven, beyond question, that there is a direct correlation between the amount of instructional time
and the rate, quantity, and quality of learning that occurs. Simply stated, the more time a teacher teaches a child the more the child
learns.
Many of our students, as a result of their two or three years at St. Jude's, have doubled or tripled their learning rate.
The BASE levels follow the Ministry of Education's recommended courses of study from
kindergarten to grade
twelve.
St. Jude's School is inspected by the Ministry of Education. All promotions and credits earned are
recognized and accepted
throughout the Province of Ontario.
St. Jude's students advance to a post secondary level of education on an
equal or better
basis
of comparison to any student from every other province and/or public school in the province.
